The golf cart bridge that runs over Lake Peachtree will be temporarily closed beginning March 12th. City staff claims that the rails have fallen into disrepair and need to be replaced. The City has hired a contractor to remove and replace the hand rails with brand new ones. It will take about 30 days to complete the project. The bridge will be re-opened for one day to accommodate the Breast Cancer Walk on March 29th.

Because this is such a highly used path, the city will post maps and signs to show additional routes around the construction. We hope that you are not too inconvenienced by this construction! For us, we will have to leave a bit earlier when taking the golf cart to church funtions now.

Is this Renovation Worth it?

This project was approved on February 6th. Beatty Construction was selected to do the job for $56,000, they were the lowest bidder. According to The Citizen newspaper, the price is $12,000 over budget, but the city was able to transfer funds from another bridge repair project that came in under budget.

We want to know what you think! I don't quite understand why it will cost so much to replace the hand rails, but that could be just me. Leave a comment below with your thoughts on this construction project.

Wow 56,000 seems rediculouy high to simply replace the hand rails! I feel like it could only cost a bit more than that to rebuild the whole thing

Seems to be a lot of things in this city that are in disrepair! So glad our tax money is going to all these projects that could have been avoided. This is the cost of lazy city managers!
