The client was buying a home that had some roofing issues. He wanted them fixed before he moved in. There was a section of the roof on the front of the house that had a dip in it. He didn’t like the looks of the roof and he couldn’t understand why it looked the way it did.
We checked out the roof and found out that the original builder had made a mistake with his framing and just didn’t bother to fix it. A couple of roof framing joists had been nailed in lower than the others and then decked over with plywood and shingled. It had always looked this way since the home was built. We bid to raise the offending trusses and make them all look even.
To begin the job, we first tore off the shingles then the old plywood decking. Using a chalkline, we lined up and raised the misaligned trusses and framed them up properly. We then installed the new plywood decking, installed the underlayment, and the new shingles.
This job was a little more tricky than I first imagined it would be. As it turned out, it wasn’t just a couple of trusses that were off. A few more of them were uneven but we lined them all up and got it looking good. There was another spot on the back of the roof with the exact same problem but we took care of that also.
