Stay Clear of City Hall! There is a fire.
Ever since the electrical fire happened yesterday afternoon utility crews have been working hard to restore power and internet to the Library and City Hall. Both of which were still closed as of Monday morning. It is estimated that both facilities will be open and operational by noon today.
Telephone and email service to all City facilities are currently down, but other facilities are open. Residents can continue to call 911 for emergencies.
If you were driving by the city library this Sunday afternoon, you may have been surprised to see copious amounts of smoke. This Sunday afternoon a fire started near the Peachtree City Hall. Neither city hall or the library were damaged: a power pole that caught on fire due to a blown transformer was the culprit.
Soon after the transformer blew fire began to burn the wood power pole until it was completely engulfed. The city police department and fire department quickly blocked the road off due to risks of live wires and the pole’s collapse.
Georgia Power is working hard to take care of the situation and insure that the pole and the lines do not come crashing down. We want to say thank you to the city police and fire department for your hard work on this Sunday afternoon!
These types of emergency electrical accidents show us how powerful electricity can be. Electrical fires can also occur in homes and commercial buildings due to old or improper wiring. Having your home wired or worked on by a licensed electrician in Peachtree City is very important. If you have concerns about your home or business’ wiring be sure to check out our electrical wiring page and call John with Powerworks with any questions.
