You can now swim in Lake McIntosh...well sort of.
Lake McIntosh is the newest and biggest lake in Peachtree City. It has been in the works for years and many have been anticipating its completion. When it was finally completed and filled in 2013 many were disappointed to learn that the lake has a strict "NO SWIMMING" rule. In fact, the official sign at the lack even says no bodily contact with the water. Fayette County is pretty serious about this rule.
However, it seems that those in charge have extended a helping hand to the Peachtree International and Supersprint Triathlon and have temporarily lifted the ban of "no bodily contact with the water." They are allowing contestants in the triathlon to swim in Lake McIntosh for the event only. With this one day rule change the athletes now have a place to do their 300 yard swim. This announcement was great news for the event and all those who will be participating.
Here is new information about the event taken directly from the website for the event. This information is new and is based on the triathlon being at Lake McIntosh.
Peachtree International and SuperSprint Triathlon
Due to maintenance on Lake Peachtree, we’ve had to adjust our course. The 2014 Peachtree International and SuperSprint Triathlon will be held at Lake McIntosh in Peachtree City. Lake McIntosh is a new 650 acre lake
A map of the Lake McIntosh Park can be found here:
Map of Lake McIntosh
This lake is DEEP! Be prepared to swim as the water will be 16-20′ deep. If you can do a practice open water swim before the race that will really help you on race morning. Lake McIntosh is not approved for swimming outside May 17th. Again, the lake is not shallow, so you will NOT be able to walk. Wetsuits will be allowed and are recommended.
The 2014 International Bike Course can be found here:
The 2014 SuperSprint Bike Course can be found here:
Please add ~1.5 to 2 straight/flat miles to these routes as we are not able to map the additional mileage to transition.
The bike course will take you through two tunnels. We urge you to use extreme caution as you are going through them. Safety is our number one priority and there is plenty of other time to make up speed!
There will be an entirely new run course. (MAP coming soon)

We visited there for the first time on Easter Sunday. It was gorgeous! The only bummer was that 5 “Out Of County” cars entered the park while we were there and not ONE stopped to pay the Out of County Fee. When word gets out as to how nice this park is I am afraid that more non paying Out Of County folks will come and disrespect this beautiful resource. I hope that we have a good plan in place to monitor this.
