Traffic Lights in Peachtree City
We have decided to compile a list of some of the worst traffic lights here in Peachtree City. I’ve lived in Peachtree City long enough to make an entire list of avoid-at-all-possible traffic lights. Some of these lights are busy throughout the day, while others get particularly congested during rush hour. I’m not sure about anyone else, but I have some routes throughout the city that I try to dodge simply because of the traffic at those lights. Here is a list of traffic lights in Peachtree City that, in my opinion, are the worst.
List of The Worst Intersections in Peachtree City
Intersection at Highway 54 and Planterra Way (Coming out of Walmart)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think we’ve all been in this situation. After a long shopping trip at Walmart, you’re ready to get home and get dinner on the table. However, traffic is backed up almost to the parking lot and it takes nearly a half hour just to get back on to Highway 54. I always try to avoid visiting walmart during rush hour, or on Saturday evenings. It seems as though those are the busiest times for people to shop at Walmart.
Highway 54 and Highway 74
This intersection is a bit less avoidable. When I know I’ll be going through the intersection between hwy 54 and 74 between 4:30pm and 7:30pm, I try to leave at least 20 minutes early. The traffic is especially bad at this time on hwy 54 going west toward Newnan.
Highway 54 and Willowbend Road (By the Library)
This is probably the intersection that I use most in Peachtree City. The wait time for this intersection is not terrible, however taking a left turn on to Willowbend Road can be like taking a stab in the dark. When you’re in the turning lane to go left on to Willowbend road (where the library is) and there is a car in the turning lane directly in front of you also turning left on to Flat Creek Road, you cannot see the oncoming traffic! I’m always faced with the decision between being gutsy and taking the turn (whether or not I can see the cars coming), or being overly cautious by waiting for the car in the other turning lane to turn before I go. I usually take the latter option.
Highway 54 and Walt Banks Road (Near the Catholic Church and McIntosh High School)
This intersection is usually problematic right before school starts at Mcintosh High School. I was a student at McIntosh and the turning lane at this intersection was the cause for my tardiness more often than not. On second thought, it was probably my fault that I only left five minutes to get to school and the timing of the green arrow was the determining factor of whether or not I made it to class on time. Even now that I have graduated, I still have a grudge against this intersection for “making me late” so often.

The light at Hwy 54 and McDuff is so very long. It’s about a 2 1/2 minutes wait when you’re on McDuff turning left onto Hwy 54 and if there are any cars going straight, you have to wait longer and the light turns Red and you have to wait another 2 1/2 minutes again.
